Welcome to The Sheep Station – a luxurious self-catering property located on the west coast of Harris in the Outer Hebrides.

The house sleeps two and is perfect for couples or singles seeking the utmost in sophistication and style in one of the most stunning and remote locations in the UK.
Beautifully designed, the house discreetly nestles into the hillside, overlooking the beach at Traigh Mhor, Scarista with spectacular and uninterrupted views of the Atlantic Ocean, the island of Taransay and the majestic Harris hills.

The beautiful beach is just a few minutes’ walk away and is reached by crossing the dunes and the pretty machair during the summer months.

The Sheep Station is situated on the stunning west coast of the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides and looks directly out onto the sand dunes of Traigh Mhor, the islands of Taransay and Gasker, the vast expanse of the Atlantic Ocean and the beautiful Harris hills.

Nestled into the surrounding landscape, the house provides uninterrupted and often unexpected vistas from every window – be it golden eagles swooping over the mountains to the rear, oyster catchers all around, Canadian geese flying overhead or simply the sheep and playful lambs providing hours of entertainment.

Sheltered outdoor seating on the decking area is the perfect tranquil space for watching the breath-taking west coast sunsets throughout the spring and the summer months or wrap up in the cooler months for star gazing and possibly a display of the northern lights.

The Sheep Station is a single storey, deceptively spacious, larch clad building comprising, entrance hall, open plan fully equipped kitchen with Smeg appliances, dishwasher and microwave. A beautiful dining area which has full, uninterrupted views of the ocean and the Harris hills, lounge with wood burning stove, Sky TV, a selection of board games, books, including, local guides and maps, Bluetooth radio and binoculars for guests to enjoy the view. The property has exceptionally strong and fast internet access with Full Fibre Broadband available throughout.

The marble bathroom has a large free-standing bathtub, rainhead shower and laundry cupboard with washing machine and separate dryer. The adjacent bedroom has a super king-sized bed, plenty of wardrobe space and the most comfortable mattress and soft, Egyptian cotton bedlinen to guarantee a restful night’s sleep.

Explore

There are plenty of ways to explore Harris, be it on foot, by bike, by boat or by car. Whichever, you chose, you will not run out of options during your stay. There are endless hiking routes, including, direct access to The Hebridean Way from The Sheep Station or you may decide to venture a little further and discover some of the many trials available across the island. Of course, you may just prefer to stroll to the nearest beach of Traigh Mhor which is just a few minutes’ walk from the houses.

The cycling is challenging, but rewarding and a fantastic way to enjoy the scenery. Cycle hire is available locally. There are numerous boat trips and tours on offer from both the harbours at Leverburgh, Tarbert and Scalpay and even, from the nearby beach at Horgabost to the island to Taransay. Trips vary in detail, content and time from ten minutes on a landing craft to Taransay, to the fun of a fast wildlife RIB experience, a full day’s fishing or the adventure of a lifetime with a visit to the remote island of St Kilda. And if you decide to head off in the car you can enjoy the east coast with its array of art galleries, pretty lochs, breath-taking landscapes and plenty of wildlife.
